On Sunday 9th I entered my second duathlon with active training world Essex Duathlon held at Debden airfield, I wanted to do the sprint distance which is 5k run, 16k cycle and 5k run to finish but didn't feel I could manage that much solo at the moment so managed to rope hubby into partnering up with me and doing the run sections, It was a frosty early start and the atmosphere was fantastic as they had a run fest going on along side it so I definatly got into the spirit, Mr D did very well on his first run coming in just over 23 mins and then off I went, trying to look professional and not managing to clip straight in (typical), there was a mandatory foot down point at the entrance to the main road but apart from that it was a 3 left turn course but it was quite undulating, and given I couldn't use my small ring as I've been having trouble it made the ups a little tough but I thoroughly enjoyed being part of the race, I did my leg in 39 mins which I was more than happy with given the ups and the wind, back into transition handed over the timing chip and off he went on second run leg, 25 mins later we crossed the finish together as I joined him for my fastest ever bit of sprint finish running at the end We came first in the relay (by default 😉🤣) but they had forgotten to bring the relay prize medals with them but they will be forwarded to us , they have accidentally got me as second fastest lady but I am sorting that as its not fair to the solo participants, overall it was a fantastic day and a great atmosphere where I had fun representing the NEV, 51 years old and still learning to step out of my comfort zone, pin a number on and give it a go, and I'm having a great time doing it, and without the fab support I've had from the club I certainly wouldn't be doing anything like this, I recommend the event and will be doing it next year too #itsallabouttheNEV Karen x
